What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an art used to successfully treat both pain and dysfunction in the body. Acupuncture began in China approximately 6000 years ago and its use has spread throughout the world. Acupuncture utilizes needles placed in the skin at various locations to relive pain or affect a body part utilizing an energy network of over 1000 "Acupoints" on the body traversing just below the skin. This energy works in harmony with the body's circulatory, nervous, muscular, digestive, genitourinary and all other systems of the body. When this vital energy becomes blocked or weakened, an effect in a body system or anatomic location becomes evident. Stimulation of one or a combination of key "Acupoints" on the body may restore harmony to the affected area.

Acupuncture Examination

Modern electronic evaluation referred to as "ryodoraku" or "electro meridian imaging" (EMI) is used in our offices. The doctor places a small painless electronic pen on the skin over specific Acupoints. By way of a sensitive metering device, the electro potential of the point is measured. Case history and consultation also play a vital role in determining what is abnormal as does simple palpation over specific body parts.

How Does It Work?

The human body's energy flow courses over twelve meridians or channels that are normally well balanced. If a disruption of energy flow exists, it can alter the entire system, producing pain or symptoms in the body. Acupuncture works by correcting the balance. Acupuncture restores normalcy to the body's energy balance by utilizing a combination of Acupoints located on the twelve meridians.

Dr Julie Asks some important questions of interest to Celebration residents - Chiropractor Celebration Dr Julie Asks...

Can someone who has had back surgery receive chiropractic care?
Yes. Rest assured that we will avoid the surgically modified areas of your spine. However, what we find is that surgical interventions will often produce spinal instability above or below the involved level. This is will be the focus of your chiropractic care.
What controls every cell, tissue and organ of your body?
DNA? Wrong. Immune system? Wrong? Hormones? Wrong. It's your nervous system, consisting of your brain, spinal cord and all the nerves of your body. When a chiropractor sees a Celebration patient with say, stomach problems, we want to know why the brain is unable to properly control and regulate the stomach. Which prompts us to examine the nervous system—the focus of chiropractic care.
